If you are changing the server and don’t want to lose any of your WordPress installation, you can follow the steps explained in change domain and server WordPress without losing information or use Duplicator.
Duplicator is an excellent plugin that you can download from the repository WordPress.org, download it here. With its help you can migrate or clone an entire site from one place to another easily. You only have to download the package that is created, upload it to the new server, and install it. Do not make any new configuration.
In this post, I will show you how to clone a WordPress site installation with Duplicator plugin. Make sure you read it through.
Creating a clone of a WordPress installation
The plugin is designed for all users, just press and activate a button; you have to respect some guidelines in order not to take risks. Before activating the plugin it is advisable to back up files and database if errors occur. The developers warn that the plugin is still in beta, so it still needs some tweaking and the opinion of people who use it also say the same thing. However, to use the PHP version it must be 5.3 or higher.
After downloading and activating the plugin it will appear in the sidebar menu to access the Duplicator. It is recommended that, before the packet is examined create section Help and Support. If you click on the button options, it will show, plus version, uninstall options, which shows the folder on the server where you stored the files needed for cloning, as well as the possibility that will delete this folder and its contents when you uninstall the plugin. Tab Rn Diagnostics displays information about versions of WordPress, PHP and MySql.
To start cloning, access the submenu Packages to proceed with the creation of a duplicate, by clicking the appropriate button. We will have to wait a moment or so, depending on the weight of our WordPress. Be patient.
When the process completes, two files will be created that you can download to your computer for later upload to the server on which you do the cloning. The downloaded files are installer.php and zip that contains the package.
On the new server, which you install the duplicate, you must run installer.php typing its path in a web browser. You’ll have that in the new screen, enter the access data to the database, like I have read all warnings & notices and press the button Run Deployment. Process begins installing files and tables of the database. Be patient also will have to wait a few minutes. When you finish this first process, Deploy, you have to activate the second. In the new window check that everything is OK, and click on Run Update.
After completing the above process, it will display information about the cloning. If there were no errors (you can try again if there are), you must follow the last steps, which are shown on the screen: Finishing in the.
