Inspiring Your Business to Talk the Talk and Walk the Walk

There’s no accounting for taste, as some people who think they have taste like to say. Or, as Oscar Wilde wittily proclaimed,

“I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.”

But, despite the somewhat condescending tone of people who say things like that, there really is no accounting for taste, especially when it comes to your business.

No matter what sector you’re in, people want to know that you can be trusted. They want to feel reassured that you know what you’re talking about and, most importantly, that you’re a success.

Indeed, talking the talk isn’t just about what you say, but how you say it and the image you convey. So, follow a few of these tips to make your business look like it has the taste to suit the occasion.

Make it look spick and span

Cleanliness is next to godliness, as very clean people tend to say and, again, they’d be right. If you have clients visiting your offices regularly, having a neat building will exude the impression of a controlled and, therefore, successful environment.

So, how do you get that neatness in place?

Well, begin with hiring a commercial landscaping company to give your exteriors a trim and get some painters in for a fresh lick of paint.

After that, make your office look like a place that Gordon Gecko would admire by plastering it with impressive looking paintings and giving any old desks and computers a high-tech revamp.

That way, your offices will look the part by looking smart.

Make body language count

Imagine you’re meeting a potential business partner for the first time. What do you want to see? A wilting wallflower who’ll shirk and quiver at the first sign of a business debate, or a sure and steely partner who won’t so much take a bullet for you as argue a bullet into a profitable business deal?

Even if you’re a shy and unassuming individual in your home life, the world of business takes confidence at face value, assuming that it’s paired with strong business acumen.

This mainly comes down to body language. Make your posture straight and certain, every word count and, most importantly, sound like you know what you’re talking about. Even if you’re fumbling around in the business-based dark, confidence is key.

Have your staff know the party line

In politics, there’s a concept known as the “party line”, in which every member of a political party must toe the line of party opinion if they want to stay in a cabinet or backbench position.

While there are occasionally some dissenting voices, it’s an idea that keeps parties as unified wholes, and it’s something that every business could learn from.

Before a client visits, have your employees know the ins and outs of the message you want to convey. Dress them up smartly, have them know all the answers and, with any luck, that talking the talk will give of a distinct impression of good taste.
