If you like to keep fit, then a vacation can present you with a problem. Keeping up with some kind of routine can seem impossible in a new and unfamiliar place.

But do you really need to continue exercising while you’re away? After all, vacations are supposed to be your time to relax. But the truth is that people who take care of their fitness need to continue doing so. It helps them keep up the habits. And besides, not exercising may just make them feel more stressed!

Use public transport less

This seems like the most obvious one, so I’ll start with this! When you’re travelling in a new location, the urge to take trains or cabs everywhere is obviously strong. I would recommend making an effort to walk to your locations, if they’re within a reasonable distance. This is why you should have a map with you, so you can find your way on foot! It helps you get to know the city better, too. If a location is quite far away, consider getting off a few stops early and walking the rest of the way.

Get up early and go for a run

You should be on the lookout for areas where you can go running. Even if you’re in a busy metropolitan location, there will be somewhere that is suitable for a run. New York City, for example, has Central Park, which is an amazing running spot. But if you can’t find anything, then consider getting up early and going for a run. There will be less people getting in the way!

Check the place you’re staying at for a fitness club

A lot of hotels and resorts have gyms on-site. In fact, many fitness lovers actually choose to go to vacation resorts because of the gym facilities! For example, travellers to Jackson Hole resorts can use the appropriate Jackson Hole fitness club. These gyms are incredibly handy. After all, you can hardly sign up for a gym membership if you’re only going to be in town for a few weeks! Many local gyms offer short-term memberships for tourists. But they’re often a lot more expensive that the facilities closer to your hotel room.

Don’t pig out!

It’s extremely tempting to pig out on all of the local delicacies. This is where a lot of people fail when it comes to staying healthy while on vacation! After all, how can one visit Paris without sampling the crepes? Or visit Italy without trying the gelato? You get the idea. You should do your best to stick to a healthy diet. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t help yourself to the local treats! It does mean, however, that you need to be careful to balance those things out by eating nutritiously at other meals.

Take part in local activities

There are many vacation destinations that are known for particular activities. For example, yoga originated in India. So there are plenty of opportunities to do yoga while you’re there! The aforementioned Jackson Hole has some of the best hiking trails in America. Spain can introduce you to flamenco dancing. Take advantage of the local opportunities!
